As per the new studies from UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital’s Chase Child Life Program A visit from a human-controlled companion robot ensures a positive perspective and improves medical interactions for hospitalized youngsters. Robin is a social companion robot that stands about 4 feet tall, and it can walk, talk, and play with people while being controlled remotely by humans. From October 2020 to April 2021, specialists from UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital’s Chase Child Life Program used Robin to conduct hour-long video visits with young children, comparing it to interactions using a standard computer tablet.

Children and their parents were surveyed about their experiences at the end of the research period, and child life professionals offered feedback in a focus group. The transcript of the debate was then used by the researchers to identify recurring and significant themes. Ninety percent of parents who had a visit with Robin expressed a desire to return, compared to 60% of parents whose children engaged with the tablet. Good effect, defined as the inclination to perceive the world positively, encompassing emotions, relationships with others, and dealing with life’s obstacles, increased by 29% in children.
