Role of Technology in fighting Climate Change

The Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman has emphasized the role of technology in fighting Climate Change. She asked for international cooperation to increase the supply of alternative sources of energy and technologies to India. A Virtual Symposium called G20 High-level Tax Symposium on Tax Policy and Climate Change was organized by Italy recently. During the symposium, the cabinet minister had discussed the role of Digital Innovation for better environmental outcomes by enabling clean energy. According to the United Nations (UN) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), with the help of technological means, we can achieve reductions in emissions in the future. Following the suggestion, the UK Government is expected to spend € 2.5 Billion till 2021 on developing Low Carbon Technology and for supporting research into Nuclear Fusion Technology which could provide vast amounts of Low-Carbon Electricity after the advice of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) to make UK’s Net Zero Carbon Emission Target possible and cost-effective. Taking inspiration and ideas for the UN and different parts of the world’s government, India can contribute to the fight against Climate Change using Technological Innovations. While kids in India are making Robots that can save electricity as seen in the World Robotics Championship 2020, a lot of scopes are in our country where our young creative minds are learning and applying the technologies very effectively as they are aware of the Climate Change situation and they care for their Planet Earth.
